Jewelry robbery
Police say three masked men wearing headscarves broke into a New York City jewelry wholesaler's safe when they were 12. 01am on Sunday.
At the time of the robbery, more than 7,000 police officers patrolled the celebrations in Times Square, only seven blocks from the square, less than half a mile.
It is believed that the thief climbed up a set of fire stairs and slipped into the sixth one.
At ten o'clock P. M. , the floor officer of the Greger Ruth jeweler waited until midnight.
The video shows that the two broke into the security room with a hammer and crowbar before they found the security camera and broke it.
Police said they had stolen gold, diamond rings, bracelets and necklaces in the car.
A police source told the New York Daily News that the safe had been opened and that the thieves "didn't even have to pry ".
